One of the first questions for any Alfresco implementation is: “how will users search and access documents?”. As longtime readers of the TSG blog will know, we typically recommend against the user “I just was a Google Search” approach. Most of our clients want to target certain document types/scenarios and search on key attributes to find content. This post will discuss how TSG’s High Performance Interface (HPI) gives clients an easy way to configure powerful searches against documents that utilize custom types and attributes.
One of the major issues for authors with Documentum, Alfresco or Hadoop has always been checking in a document from a browser based interface. We have recently completed adding Office 365 integration to our High Performance Interface (HPI) to allow clients to checkin and checkout without requiring Office on their device. This week TSG again attended the annual NIRMA conference in Las Vegas to both exhibit and co-present with one of our long-term nuclear clients. If you are not familiar with NIRMA it is the Nuclear Information and Records Management Association. This organization provides guidance in regards to paper and electronic records programs, compliance, and technologies to commercial, utility, and government agencies. TSG solutions are at multiple nuclear clients. This post will highlight our thoughts of the conference.

The first step in supporting all of the TSG products on Hadoop is building our OpenContent REST Web Services layer to access Hadoop in the same manner we access Documentum, Alfresco and other content management systems. This post will present our plans and timelines for OpenContent along with associated TSG solutions.
Last week we posted on a publishing approach for enterprise search. Along with enterprise search, we have seen more and more ECM clients look to publish content out of the ECM repository for a variety of business reasons including performance, business continuity and reducing costs. This post will highlight how Hadoop can be used within a publishing architecture and explain some of the benefits.
In the fall of 2012, Technology Services Group flew up to Winnipeg, Manitoba with Alfresco to understand CMHR’s vision for their museum. More than a decade in the making, and still under construction, we were able see the vision for the numerous digitally driven exhibits being designed and built, the need for an API to interface with all of the exhibits, how digital assets which would be licensed and owned, and how a core repository would be required to centralize all of these assets. The most amazing part of the trip was getting a tour of the 350 million dollar museum. While only partially built at the time, the museum already had the incredible alabaster walkways in place, the window enclosures were being sealed, and you could already start to envision how amazing the Garden of Contemplation and Tower of Hope would be once completed.
Almost two years later, the museum will be opening this weekend. TSG is honored to have been a part of the process, in assisting CMHR in building a core content repository on Alfresco, interfacing with their collection systems, and building a central platform providing content to all of the museum exhibits and the online collection. CMHR has integrated various TSG solutions to help make this possible, including HPI as the primary interface to bulk import, index, and search all of the incoming digital assets. TSG’s OpenMigrate solution is also used to ingest content from various collection systems into a single repository and drive a publishing process to the external facing web site.
